It's Raining Slates

          by Torin

PAG went to the Slate Caves. The original plan had been to use a Mystic teleporter to help us get to the Orga Stronghold Back Door quickly. No Mystic was available, so we just hunted. Everything looked good until far too many Slate Noids followed our lurer. Fortunately, only a few had to depart.

Rain Forest

          by Torin

On a trip to the Metz Rain Forest, Asenath's illusion dispelling let us take a shortcut. With four fighters and four healers, the party did well against Flying Foxweirs, various cats, Arachnes, Gloaming Wendeckas, and Yorillas. At one point, Asenath teleported herself and Natas to pick up Califas. However, on the port back, her stone broke, and she lost Califas. The rest of us made it out alright.

South Metz

          by Torin

A group managed to clear the first snell of South Metz. We started luring from the second snell, but a backspawn of Yorillas ended the good times. Noivad, Yor, and Natas departed at various times to rescue the rest of us. Eventually everyone was chained to safety in the water, and then the setup began for another attempt. However, a kudzu-eating Pazu-Ohwi spawned to make the chance of success dim. At that point, I had to leave, but I am guessing that the others stopped soon afterwards.

Vision of Bizob

          by Torin

Today I had a waking vision of Bizob, one of the founders of OWE and an old friend. With the aid of a powerful Mystic, he was able to talk with me for a brief time, despite the great distance. He spoke of traveling in foreign lands, meeting new people, finding love, and settling down in a new homeland. He sends the clan his blessing in the name of the White Elephant.

(OOC: I recently came across the blog of Bob, Bizob's clicker, and I said hello. He is living and teaching in Italy and just had a new baby boy. Though he won't be returning to Clan Lord, I'm sure that he would welcome greetings from an old CL friend or two.)

Kizmia's Island

          by Torin

Mujin-kun led a fun hunt at KI, starting at the Cove entry to the Underground. She, Blackhole, and I make a great killing team; Arbitur, J'jh, and Talin kept us healthy. I had to jump into the whirlpool about 20 times before making it to the north side. I think that this trip was Arbitur's first time through the KI mainland, so he got a nice experience bonus as we launched our boats to leave.

Training Quest

          by Torin

Sativa, a Journeyman Mystic, wanted to begin lessons with an ethereal trainer. None of us in town knew much about it until Kani arrived. He led a group through Melabrion's Keep, the Ethereal Plane, and Tenebrion's Keep. The trainer was by the sewers of TK. Sativa got started on his training, and fun was had by all!

(Correction: I mistakenly called Sativa an Apprentice Mystic. He is in fact a Journeyman Mystic, and the entry above has been corrected.)

Galadriel's New Ledger

          by Torin

Galadriel earned a ledger from AnDeux Faure yesterday. She says, "I've been training with his brother AnTrix Faure for a few months now to increase my healing speed and spirit recovery." You can see some of Gala's other ledgers, thanks to Farhope's scroll of exile trainers. Congrats, and Tuska Galadriel! Stomp stomp!

Abyss 2

          by Torin

PAG had a strong turnout, especially for a Sunday, so we decided to go to DTN. It turned out to be a cakewalk. We picked Abyss 2 as a more challenging follow-up. Setting up in Abyss 1 was quickly taken care of. The majority of the group went into Abyss 2 and promptly fell. I stayed behind with a small group to keep the first snell secure.

After a couple of unsuccessful chain attempts and some idle time, Yor departed and came back to take charge of the rescue. He fell after entering the Abyss, and as I went to chain him to our group, a large spawn overwhelmed us. When we recovered, Gorvin and Yor chained the fallen out of Abyss 2.

OWE present: Giga, J'jh, Natas, Torin, and Yor.

P.S. Kishi was spotted outside the library yesterday. Based on my short sunstone conversation with her, I doubt that we will see her regularly, but perhaps we can convince her to join us for a hunt every now and then.

PAG at Twilight Temple

          by Torin

PAG went to the Twilight Temple on Metz — the place Hunter mentioned in his last post. Getting past the arachnes required close, shoulder-to-shoulder fighting, but we managed it well. In the Temple's basement were rooms that seemed to spawn Ancient Greymyrs nonstop. Just as we had destroyed one group, another would appear. We saw some interesting sights, including sparkles that produced something that looked like the lightning grenades used by the Orgas. Yor wanted us to see a machine (a Greymyr generator?), but the hour was late.

Metz Temple

          by Hunter

A nice group led by Mujin-kun went to the mysterious arachne temple on Metz. We made excellent time, tearing through a lot of greymyrs on route. Then we cleaned the temple of arachne before leaving.

Afterwards I caught Yor heading into the casino. K'stra was kind enough to throw him out before there was trouble.

Nice Kitty!

          by Torin

Elenis Reyav called for a hand in killing an Utsanna Haremau at Metz beach. He and I took swings while Arlana, Reisa, and Terise duMiroir held the beast by the cove. Nyla and Pe Ell showed up a few minutes later, and with a little patience and some falling, we got the job done.

KI Express

          by Torin

Mujin-kun invited me on a Kizmia's Island hunt. Blackhole, Sai, and Galadriel (Tuska OWE!) were also in the group. Mujin does KI the way I do NWF — at breakneck speed. We whirled through there and left a lyfeless landscape in our wake!

The only time I was worried was in the Scarmis Pit. Mujin was easily bricking the bugs when a Eunuch came along. Mujin fell, just as she and Blackhole killed the Eunuch. With it dead, recovering was no problem.

Sunday Roundup

          by Torin

Friday, May 11: When DTN 2 had a nasty spawn, we made a run for it, but only Natas escaped. He later managed to chain me out. Everyone else in the original party, as well as some of the rescuers, had to depart.

OWE present: Hunter, J'jh, Natas, Noivad, Torin, and Yor.

Saturday, May 12: The Earth Wyrm hunt went remarkably well. We remembered the days when we would wait for hours outside the cave for a toggle from the fallen inside. Not so this time. Life is good.

Sunday, May 13: Asenath predicted an Ethereal Incursion on Ash Island, just south of the Dark Temple. Dozens of exiles showed up, and MaryJane organized the effort. With plenty of excitement and some temporary setbacks, the exiles of Puddleby won the day! (P.S. See the TMN entry for a post-victory sketch of the participants.)

OWE present: Hunter, J'jh, Torin, and Yor.

Tuska Thoooom!

          by Torin

A huge thanks goes out to Paramedic and ThoomCare Media Network for giving a lot of visibility to OWE News soon after its launch. TMN recently celebrated its fifth anniversary — five years of news reports, announcements, and gossip. What a great resource for us all! Tuska Paramedic! Tuska TMN!

Sheriff Scandal

          by Hunter

What kind of a scandal? An invisible cross-dressing sheriff scandal. I was at DTN today when my eyes started playing tricks on me. At least, I hope they were playing tricks on me. Whenever Noivad stopped moving, he disappeared. Poof! I was amazed, as invisibility would be a most impressive skill to perfect.

Then later on in the hunt, before we were ambushed and massacred, I saw something even more perplexing. Perhaps I was hallucinating. I admit it's possible, but I made this sketch. (If you're standing, you should sit down before you look.) Noivad appeared to look like Mujin-kun! He was showing off his legs as you can see.

An Intervention For Yor

          by Hunter

Last week I was walking past the Golden Butterfly Casino when I heard someone bellowing inside. Curious, I took a look around. The growling was coming from downstairs in the back room. Fistfuls of coins were being slammed on one of the blackjack tables. I peaked my head in to see who this mystery maniac was. Who was it, you ask? Notorious Y.O.R. - in the green flesh. I looked on with utter dismay while he placed a 20,000 coin bet on a single hand! 20,000 coins! I couldn't watch. As I left I heard more screaming and Yor accusing Lakjo of rigging the game.

Concerned about this troubling development, I told some friends. They were appalled and eager to help. However, he claimed to be poor and accused me of defamation. It's not surprising that Yor (who is renown for slandering the honorable beer-drinking Connie Crete) would choose such a tactic. Yor, the first step on the road to recovery is admitting you have a problem. Is Yor poor? Only if a Zo who finances a secret rebel military can be considered poor. The ambitions of his Yorbot Army are still unknown. He's also been seen carousing all over Puddleby. So is Yor poor? I submit for you this picture of Yor decked out in a gold cloak on a recent hunt. Yes, that's 9000 coins for some fabric he has worn only once. Fashion has its price, especially fashion with "poor" taste. What was he thinking with that yellow skin dye?

He's taunted me for a week now to provide evidence of his outrageous blackjack bet, so evidence I shall provide. I didn't want to make this public, but he's given me no choice. My buddy Lakjo has been kind enough to supply me with security footage of Yor's gambling addiction in action. It's a shocking sight. Next time you see Yor, tell him you're concerned and advise him to give his coins to Hunter for safekeeping.

Wigglesworth, Deathroot

          by Torin

Natas introduced us to his new baby Tok pet, Mr. Wigglesworth. He wanted to take the little drooler to Metz, but Mr. Wigglesworth jumped out of the boat and swam away. Poor Natas is heartbroken!

The PAG trip to the Deathroot area of Metz was a disaster. I fell to a thorny root only a minute after we entered and was pulled underground immediately. By an hour later, much of the group had met a similar fate, and many of us departed.

Mid-Week Scrapbook

          by Torin

Tuesday, May 8: Should we hunt the Tok egg room? Um... not today!

Wednesday, May 9: Who was flaunting what? My head hurts! Let's just hunt!

That's Hot

          by Hunter

Here are some more action shots from the OS trip Torin wrote about. It was a successful failure in that we did the best we could given what we were up against. The trouble was largely due to the Orga Loathings we came across.

The lightning intensity was at its usual strength. Hunter's Red Halfling Rod (seen in this picture) and Mephisto's Blue Thoom Rod still penetrated as deep as we could, taking bolt after bolt. It was exhilarating. Chain and grenade lightning? Yummy.

We made about 16 attempts at taking this first snell over the course of 2.5 hours before we conceded. A lot of us fell each run and chaining was a race against the Razzia. Care to place your bets on whether Puff Higgy made it out alive from that spot?

Despite all the falling, all the departs, all the scorched armor, all the broken chains, and failing to conquer the first snell - it was fun. We shall return...

OS Assault Fails

          by Torin

The monthly EAT/PAG trip to the Orga Stronghold started with high hopes. The last two trips had yielded great moments of exploration and discovery.

This time, the Orga defenders were too much for us. Heavy lightning, Loathings, and Razzias never let us get a foothold in the first snell beyond the path.

Toks, Noids, Wendies

          by Torin

Toks and Noids and Wendies, Oh My!

Here are a few sketches from some recent hunts.

Wednesday, May 2: Hunting Deep Toks without a Ranger or a Blood Mage is not so easy.

Thursday, May 3: PAG goes to Pitch Caves.

Friday, May 4: Is it time to run away yet?

April Fool's!

          by Hunter

Now that it's the 1st of May, why not talk about the 1st of April? Amidst the fun of Puddleby's boardwalk, there were some interesting critters appearing in the lands that I must write about.

But to do a little boasting first actually, Yor and I dominated frog hop. What else is to be expected from Notorious Y.O.R. and Puff Higgy? We were unstoppable, as usual, and damn did we look good green. That was stylish and flawless hopping at its finest, if I must say so. I am a very humble Dwarf. In fact, we did so exceedingly well at setting lavish new records that we decided to walk away from our glory. Others deserved at least a chance to feel somewhat accomplished. Beware next year, though! Yor and I will not be giving anyone a reprieve from our greatness.

Back to those critters, I was relaxing with a fine brew in the fairgrounds when I noticed my beer was sloshing around. Various oddities had been attacking us, such as carnivorous beach balls and a member of Julius' legendary Chigger Mafia, but they had not posed much of a threat. I had been healing with my eyes closed, discerning an occasional tap on my cloak. However, in my stupor I suddenly now felt the ground trembling. As the thuds grew louder, I lifted my hood up to see a mass of dark giants marching towards us. Squinting, I realized they were Yorbots! Yorbot Soldiers were besieging Puddleby!

The small crew with me quickly slaughtered them. But then came the Yorbot Generals. They massacred us. Body parts were scattered across the fairgrounds. I escaped with Paramedic into a chasm, where we waited until the reinforcements had assembled. While those brave exiles made an attempt to get a foothold in the fairgrounds, I immerged from the chasm to find the Yorbot Generals ordering Yorbot Army Attack Vermine! They were pink. There was also a cute little guy with them. Eventually Puddleby overcame these forces after yet another epic battle for the history books.

Now we know what Yor has been up to in his free time. But just how large is his Yorbot Army? And when will they attack next?

A Day of Errands

          by Torin

A group of eight decided to have some fun by doing an Uli run. As we breezed through Dred Passage and Orga Village, Hunter complained about how things were too easy. Oh well, what can we do? We're stronger and smarter than we used to be.

After we returned to Puddleby, J'jh had to study. The rest of us took on another mission — escort Asenath to the EP Forge. Although we ran into a couple of Ether Clouds and assorted junk, the trip was short and sweet. It was a shame that we didn't find an ethercle to make an amulet.

OWE present: Hunter, J'jh, Noivad, Torin, and Yor.
